Exaton AXT (GTAW)

Exaton AXT is a high‑manganese 307‑type filler metal designed to minimise hot cracking in fully austenitic welds. It is ideal for joining work‑hardenable steels, armor plates, austenitic stainless‑manganese steels and free‑machining steels up to 18 % Cr.

Key Features

  • Increased Mn content for reduced fissuring/hot cracking
  • Consistent chemistry and mechanical properties batch‑to‑batch
  • High corrosion resistance with elevated Cr and Mo levels
  • Low‑moisture SAW flux packaging (20‑25 kg drums)
  • Cost‑effective operation with fewer cladding layers

Specifications

  • Classifications: EN ISO 14343 W 18 8 Mn, SFA/AWS A5.9 ER(307) modified
  • Approvals: CWB 18 8 Mn
  • Alloy Type: Austenitic (18 % Cr – 8 % Ni – 7 % Mn)
  • Shielding Gas: M12, M13 (EN ISO 14175)
  • Tensile (As Welded): Yield 460 MPa, Tensile 650 MPa, Elongation 41 %
  • Charpy Impact (As Welded): 20 °C 140 J, –196 °C 27 J
  • Typical Wire Composition (%): C 0.08, Mn 7, Si 0.9, S ≤0.015, P ≤0.025, Ni 8, Cr 18, Mo ≤0.3, Cu ≤0.1, N ≤0.06

Applications

  • Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) of stainless steel in heavy‑duty environments
  • Cladding and overlay applications requiring high corrosion resistance
  • Welding of stainless and nickel alloys where multi‑layer deposits are normally required
