Welding Procedure

Summary

Covers welding requirements for any type of welded structure made from commonly used carbon and low-alloy constructional steels.

Scope

Design, qualification, fabrication, and inspection of steel structures welded by SMAW, SAW, GMAW, FCAW, ESW, and EGW processes. Applies to structures subject to static and/or dynamic loading.

Key Requirements

Welder Qualification

Welders must qualify per Clause 4.

  • Visual inspection of test welds
  • Bend tests or RT/UT
  • Requalification required if process changes

WPS Qualification

Welding Procedure Specifications must be qualified per Clause 4 through PQR testing.

  • Mechanical testing of test coupons
  • Essential variable limits defined
  • Pre-qualified WPSs available for common configurations

Inspection Requirements

Clause 6 covers quality and inspection.

  • VT required for all welds
  • NDT (UT/RT) per engineer specification
  • Rejection criteria defined by loading type
